Drafting and planning- Using Page Plus

I choose to use red text because i thought it was the color that would stand out the most against the black background. I chose this main image is Eminem is looking at the customer and therefor attracts them more. His hands are reaching out and i think this creates an extremely good effect. The cover line look good against  the edges of the magazine instead of in the middle and not have all of the words touching the edges.

Here is what people would like to see in my magazine. It lets me know that people want to know a lot about the artists who their music influences are, their character profile and how they got started. I will try and include as much of this in my double page spread as i can.

Here is a draft of my double page spread. I like the idea of having the main letter of something important behind the text. I like this because i think that it makes the magazine look different and more interesting. The writing above will still be easily readable but it will not just be on a blank background so there is more to look at.

Here is a draft of how i want my front cover to be laid out. I have not put writing in there or used my own pictures as this is just a draft. Here all of the cover lines are around the edges of my magazine so that the main image can be seen.

This is a draft layout for my contents page. In the boxes i will put the page number and next to it will be what is on each page. I want a picture to cover the background to keep the page interesting.

Drafting and planning- Draft layout

I have done a draft of my layout. My main image will go over the masthead. I thing this adds a sense of importance to the main image, and i would like a lot of focus to be on the main image. The coverlines and smaller images will go over the main image however they will not ominate the front cover.

This is what my template looks like. However i can see that the cover line and picture about iggy azalea cover nicki minajs award, and this is a main part of the picture, therefor if my template needs to be changed so that the picture looks better then i will do so. However i will take my picture baring in mind where i want my cover lines.

Here are pictures of Iggy Azalea at concerts, in music videos and out on cat walk events. Seeing this helps me to decide the style of the people in my main image as Iggy is a rapper and i can get tips off her pictures on what to wear.

I have looked up rap in a visual thesaurus and it showed me some names related to rap. I did this to help me with the name of my magazine. Even though there were many that were not relevant the words such as whang and knock made me think that i want my magazine to have a bold word as the title.

Here is a contents page, i like how all the writing is on the side with a slight description underneath. This contents page is also very neatly set out and the writing is black on a white background. There are also visual aids and i think visual aids are very important as at first glance it makes the magazine more appealing.


I would not like my contents page to look like this. There is to much writing in my opinion for this to be a contents page. A contents page should be for people to look at and know what is in the rest of the magazine.

This double page spread has a lot of images on it, and for my double page spread i would also like many pictures. I think that visual aids are very important and draw the reader in further. There is also red and white writing that stands out on the black background and makes it easy to read. I would like my writing to be very viable so that nobody is not able to read the writing or has difficulty in reading it. The font of the title is also very good and ties in with the rock theme of the band.

This double page spread is much less busy than the one above. I would like mine to to have more than one image however i do not want it to look messy on the page i would like it to look professional. I also like the look of the S that goes through under the writing, after seeing this i would like to use this in my magazine.

Drafting and planning- planning preliminary task

This is the picture that i will use for my magazine draft. It is not too busy which is what i wanted and there are very light colors around the image so that the font writing can be black.The style of music i will do is RnB for my draft. This image is also very good as everything is clear and all of her face is visible. However in a main image it is a lot more effective if the person is looking at the reader. This picture would be a lot better if the person was looking at the camera. This is a error that i have now learnt from.

Here the man is standing against a background of silver. I would like the person/ people in my main image to have a simple background of white or black so that the magazine does not look to cluttered. I also may want the people in my main image to be standing against a brick wall. Also the clothing style is important, this man is not dressed like a typical rapper however i would like my models to be dressed stereo typically.


I need to decide weather to have one two or more rappers on the front of my magazine. In my opinion one rapper looks better, i think that a group of rappers would make my magazine look to cluttered and this is nit how i want it to be presented.

Organisation- How i am doing with my blog so far

My blog is well organised and all of the posts have a clear title. I have used a lot of picture examples and these visual aids are very important and helps me a lot with planning my magazine. I have justified my codes and conventions task but i could of used a lot more detail and gone into more depth on why i choose to do what i did. I could use this when thinking of my magazine when seeing what looks right and what doesn't. The magazines do look realistic, however some of the writing and pictures could be moved around to look straight.

'Some rap music can make people feel secure about the environment that you live in. A lot of rap artists come from environments that aren't very wealthy. They express their feelings and speak their minds through their music, which makes the listeners feel connected t the artist. As for how the listeners feel, their self- esteem may boost knowing that there are other people who came from another neighborhood similar to theirs, and had the ability to get rich.'
Rappers rap about there life and what they have become, they rap about the hardships that they have had.
It can make people listen to their story and understand more about the world. 
It can also give people hope who have nothing and feel as though they are in the same place that the artist was in, and it may help them get through the struggle.

Above and below are the types of magazine covers that i will be looking to create. I like the bold colors of yellow and black. Also the main images are all of a rapper that is doing a serious pose. I also like the two above and bottom right because the main image is covering the mast head, i think this is good because it makes the main image a main focus. Also all the main artists are looking at the reader, this is called direct address and creates a consumer relationship.

Drafting and planning- preliminary task

I choose a picture of a sixth former outside of st Thomas Aquinas main entrance. I choose to give it a red tint as the schools main colors are red black and white. For the main heading i choose to put it in miulti colors, this is because on the feed back from pupils of sixth form they said that bright vibrant colors and house colors are the colors that they would like to see. There is no bare code because the magazine will be free. I have put 'School football..' in a shape to make it stand out because something that was very clear on the questionnaire was that people wanted to see results.
After analyzing my magazine i can see that the edit on the main image look effective. I will not edit my main image again so that it does not look realistic and like a stereotypical magazine.

I used writing that is sinister and mixed up a bit like the main image. I also included a free magazine to be put inside to entice the audience. Puggs and Puffs can be very important in terying to make a person buy your magazine. I will use a Puffs and Puggs to try and make my magazine seem more appealing.

I used bold writing to fit in with the main heading i also used guitars with fire coming off them to give a larger feel of 'rock' Rock is often associated with fire and this is why i have added this in. I am aware that one of the guitars is higher and this is a human error. I need to make sure that on my final piece this does not happen.

This picture and the main heading seem very simple and i wanted to keep to that theme. 'Bjork tells ALL' lets the person reading the front cover know that the singer will be reveling a lot of information about herself'

I thought that jazz would be the best type of music for this band as they are all dressed as though a jazz band would dress. They also have a saxophone which a lot of jazz band use. I chose to call the band blow because the word is to simply play a instrument. The words are also in red and this is easily readable.

Having Drakes opinion means that different genres of music would be involved. It is aiming at teenagers and anyone who likes RnB music. I have put Drake over the main image as this is more practice to what i want to do. I have also added in a bar code, a cover line and a main cover line. I have also linked the cover lines with the magazine and this is very important. 

Drafting and planning- Looking at typography

I think that image E has the best font for the magazine. I think this because it is the same font as the mast head and therefor helps bring the whole magazine together. Each letter is also broken up but it is not broken up to much. It is also a bold text that fits in with the bold image. It also fits in with the words of the cover line 'machine motha'
Also B and F are good options, they are both cover lines that fit with the mast head as they are similar fonts. E B and F all add the the chic look of the magazine.
My least favorite one is C, this is because it is a childish text and this is not the theme that is trying to be portrayed. D is also not a good theme, it makes the magazine seem broken up and that it does not fit in with the main theme.

Drafting and planning- Practicing using Paint.net

I made the back ground of Shannon bury to really make her the main image. I have decided that this effect does not suit this picture and perhaps it is to out of focus behind so i would not blur at such a high percentage if i was to use it in my final draft.

Here i made the background a different color and the lips red, this looks good but the effect is not neat enough if i wanted to use this i would have to be much neater.

I am aware that these images are very edited and this is not what i want on my main image. However it allows me to see what it would look like if i was to edit my main image. If i edit my main image on Pint.net then it will be to do with the brightness and the contrast. I will not heavily edit my main image or any of my images.
