Drafting and planning- Practicing using Paint.net

I made the back ground of Shannon bury to really make her the main image. I have decided that this effect does not suit this picture and perhaps it is to out of focus behind so i would not blur at such a high percentage if i was to use it in my final draft.

Here i made the background a different color and the lips red, this looks good but the effect is not neat enough if i wanted to use this i would have to be much neater.

I am aware that these images are very edited and this is not what i want on my main image. However it allows me to see what it would look like if i was to edit my main image. If i edit my main image on Pint.net then it will be to do with the brightness and the contrast. I will not heavily edit my main image or any of my images. 

Drafting and planning- Practices using a mast head and main cover line

This has enabled me to use paint.net and put pictures over a mast head and also enter a main cover line. This will be very useful for me when i am creating my magazine. This is because i want my main image to go over the mast head. Now that i know how to do this i know that i can do it for my magazine and it also means that i can see what images look like over mastheads rather than in front. 

Drafting and planning- Codes and conventions

I have analyzed a magazine because it will give me an idea into what i want to do in my magazine. I have learnt that magazines do not have to have all the conventions on it. I have shown that i understand the different parts of a magazine and what they all create. The magazine cover has given me a lot of inspiration for when i create my magazine.

Drafting and planning- School magazine

On the front cover i am thinking of having the writing in RED and this will also be in bold. Around the sides the cover lines will tell the pupils a bit about what they can expect to find on the inside. The main image will be relevant to the pupils and it will be people from the school, preferably someone that they can look up to and is a good role model. 

After collecting all of my information from my questionnaire i have a better understanding of what i should put in there. People want to see the results of school sports/activities that have taken place. A lot of people also said that there should be a quiz inside and therefore i will put this in there and there will also be a prize for the winner. People have also said that they want to see photos of school teams and things that are very relevant to the school. 

This task is important because it allows me to see that it is important that i put what people want in my magazine and do not just pout what i want in the magazine.

90% of people said education
30% of people said friends
10% said the future
10% said not a lot
These results show that school mainly means education, this could be in my magazine as it could show the 10% of students that think it does not mean a lot that education is important, it shows a high level of pupils in sixth form that think education is important.

2.What subjects most popular?
30% said Biology
10% said English
60% said P.E
A high percent of people said P.E is the most popular, this may be because it is a active subject and people enjoy it. some subjects were not even mentioned showing that pupils have to same views on what subject is the most popular.

3.Do you enjoy School?
40% of people said sometimes
60% of people said Yes
No one said that they do not enjoy school this is an extremely positive thing to see.

4.Is skipping school a problem in your eyes?
50% said yes and 50% said no
Having split views shows how the problem is neutral.

5.Is the use of technology rising in lessons?
20% said no
80% said yes
Technology is filling our every day lives and becoming better and better all of the time, and schools are trying to use technology more and more to have a diverse way of learning. some students have not noticed a change, perhaps only certain teachers use technology and some don't.

6.What colors would you put in the school magazine?
40% said red and black
30% said house colors
10% said orange
20% said vibrant colors
Red and black are the school pictures so people are bound to choose these colors, and 30% said house colors, i think this would be better to do because it is not the obvious option and all the colors may make the magazine jump out at the readers more.

7.What pictures would you put in a school magazine?
70% said pictures of the school
10% said happy pictures
10% said team pictures
10% said pictures relevant to the information inside
A large amount of people said pictures about the school, but this could be a range of all different things, team pictures would be a good thing to include.

8.Would you like to see any competitions inside?
80% said yes
20% said maybe
This enables me to make the choice of having a competition but only one, as 80% would like to see a picture included.

9.What news would you like to find out about school?
40% said results
40% said about team competitions
20% said anything relevant
I will include all this information in the magazine as these were the only choices people wanted to see and none are below 20%.

10.Do you think staying on at A level is important
100% said yes
This is a positive statistic that will be shown in my magazine.

This is a link to MTV music site. This music site has a lot of different artists dressed differently to suit the genre of music that they sing. This lets me look at the images and see what the lighting is like and if any props are used. 

Drafting and planning- Cropping images

I have uploaded the cropping exercise i did today to demonstrate ICT skills and using a magazine masthead. This will be useful for my preliminary task. I created this in publisher. This is very simple as it is just placing a masthead over a main image. This gave me the first block to think about creating my own magazine. 

Research into similar products- Style of a magazine for ideas

The Magazine: 
The magazine really appeals to me because of the picture that is at the center of the magazine. The colours are simple and bold, using red and black means that the text is easy to read. I also like the way that Eminem is over the title and over everything else, because it makes it seem like one big powerful message.

The website:
It tells me about an artist that i am extremely interested in, when it comes to his life and music. The background is plain white so everything is easy to find. There is also a box that is easily located that contains background information. There is also then a contents where you can click on links and it takes you to that part of the website. There are also pictures and under each one there is a small description of what is is.
